Fishing · Brad Laabs Fishing Report - May 15, 2010

We are all getting excited for the opener this weekend.

Look for walleyes to be in shallow water on either the inside edge of the weed line or outside edge. Fish the edges of large flats that extend out into main lake areas and drop quickly to deep water. If your opening lake has flowing water, look for fish relating to the current.

This past week we experienced a significant slowdown in the crappie and sunfish bite due to the cold fronts and a 8-10 degree drop in water temps. With the expected warm temps starting Friday and continuing through next week we should have an improving bite.

Northern pike will be shallow and aggressive after this last stretch of cold. The Shiner bite should be on for walleyes and northerns. Shallow likes like Height of Land, Shell, and Rock warm quickly and should produce.

Other Classic opening lakes in our area include Big/Little Detroit, Sallie, Mellissa, Pelican, White Earth, and Cormorant. Our neighbor Lakes of Lida, Big/Little Pine, Rush and of course Otter Tail will produce.
