Fishing · Brad Laabs Fishing Report - June 3, 2010

June is here and so is the start of mayfly hatches on area lakes. Due to the
weather changes it looks as though the hatches will start and stop with the
sunshine. Not all lakes hatch at the same time so be ready to change lakes
if necessary to improve success. It is difficult to compete with Mother
Nature when she puts some much natural feed in the lake.

I have been catching walleyes on several area lakes in 9-11ft of water rip jigging shiners on 1/16 or 1/8 oz jigs. A mix of Bass and Northern Pike will be
caught rip jigging as well. Shiner minnows are almost done and the
transition to other minnows, leeches and crawlers will start.

Fish will transition from flats to edges, outside weed lines, and move to mid-lake structure. Big Northern Pike have been getting caught on Sallie, Mellissa,
and Little McDonald Lakes. Be mindful of slot limits on these lakes.

Bass have been active on Cotton, Floyd, Sallie, and the Detroit's. Walleye
fishing has been good on Island, Cotton, Detroit, Pelican, Pines and Otter
Tail.

Pine and Pelican will have walleye tournaments this next weekend so
you will want to avoid the heavy pressure on these lakes.

Muskie fishing opens this weekend. Big/Little Detroit and Pelican are always a couple of the best Muskie lakes not only in the area, but in the state. With boat races on Detroit and a big walleye tourney on Pelican, it will be an
interesting opener for sure. It is amazing that in the information age we
don't communicate and schedule better..oh well, adjust and adapt. Have fun ,
be respectful, and be safe!
