Fishing · Brad Laabs Fishing Report - July 3, 2010

The last three days have been hot and windy. I have fished in these
conditions with mixed results.

The forecast for Friday is much the same. I have found the walleyes to be more shallow than the last couple weeks when we were contending with the mayfly hatch. We have a new hatch of baitfish and so the minnow bite is back on also.

Checking the inside edge of cabbage weeds as well as the deep water edge has paid off for my boat. Rip jigging is back into play when fishing these inside weed edges. I have also done a couple of Crappie trips and had success rip jigging 1/16oz jigs with 2" twister tails or 1/8oz jigs with 3" tails in 11-13 ft weed lines.

Bass are active on both Long Lakes, Floyd, Cotton, and Big Detroit. Walleyes are hit and miss on area lakes due to weather patterns, but Big Detroit is heating up. I had crappie success on Pickerel, Sallie and Big Toad. For the Muskie guys and gals, you already know that Big DL is a must do deal right now.
