Fishing · Brad Laabs Fishing Report - July 17, 2008
The walleye bite in the Detroit Lakes area continues to be solid. Summer patterns prevail and a switch to spinners over this next week will be a good idea. Water temps have reached 73 degrees on most area lakes Some area lakes have another mayfly hatch going on so a deep mud bite( 26-32 ft ) and a cabbage weed (11-16ft) will be key on those lakes. The am bite seems to slow significantly by about 10 am and the evening bite is best from about 8 pm to dark thirty. Northern pike are active on jigs and minnows on the weed lines or pitching or trolling crank baits in 12-16ft of water. I have not beenchasing Bass over the past two weeks, but have caught many jigging or rigging for walleyes so if you target those fish on the deep weed edge on sharp breaks to deep water you should have good success. I have heard of excellent Bass catches off Long, Cotton, and Prairie lakes. Muskie action is active on Pelican and Big Detroit. Most are having success with a chunking bite of spinner baits or minnow imitators. Sunfish are active in jigs and small leeches fished in 7-12 ft of water. Get out and enjoy the good bite and great weather.
