| Burlington Springs is located on Highway 10 east of the Holiday Inn. The owners of the Burlington Springs are the Novotnys. After Bob Novotny purchased the, land he found a spot where water was flowing.
Mrs. Novotny commented that the quality of the water is excellent, but does have a little hardness. The water is tested every year just to make sure that the water has not been polluted, although there is not much of a chance of the water getting polluted since the water is protected with a cement box around the springs. Mrs. Novotny also said that the water was first discovered when the railroad, which is somewhat near the family’s house, was built. The Novotny family has been living on the property for about twenty years now, although Mr. Novotny is no longer alive, Mrs. Novotny and her children are still selling the fresh ground water. They do have a tip policy which is $1.00 for five gallons. Right now the average customers she gets in a week are four or five. Compared to the past, that is very little. The Becker County Record on Sunday December 27, 1987, contained an article stating the Novotny’s son had been planning for quite some time now to put a building up to bottle water. The article stated that the springs have been flowing for about 100 years.
The Novotny’s have had some businesses come to talk to them about buying the water for their companies products, but they haven’t sold the business yet. |
Mrs. Novotny thinks that there will be a better chance for more customers in the future because of the water pollution happening in other parts of the county.
For all of us there are other sources of fresh water, such as bottled water, but the question is what kind of bottled water is the best? Another question that many might ask is “Should we really believe that there are not any added ingredients in any bottled water?” In a lot of people’s opinions, unprocessed, fresh water is the best there is.
There are many issues about the differences between tap water and bottled water that are worth an argument as far as which is better to drink and which is healthier. Many say that bottled water is healthier than tap water, but what they don’t know is that some bottlers actually bottle tap water. Bottled water is certainly a life saver when our tap water has become too polluted to drink, but unpolluted tap water can be a very valuable source that can save a lot of money.
Another way of saving money, rather than buying tons of plastic bottles is to buy a filtration system. Filtration systems can be helpful in making undrinkable tap water drinkable.

Many companies use spring water to package their products. One is the tuna industry. Some soft drink companies also have spring water in their product. Sparkling water is also used by many other companies.
Artesian wells were first drilled during the 12th century on a French province of Artois. This is how the well got its name. Artesian wells are supplied by rainwater that seeps into the ground and goes down to a layer of rock and eventually is pushed through the rock layer by its own pressure. An example would be the Novotny’s spring. An artesian spring is water that is pushed to the surface then pushed out between cracks in the ground.
Hopefully this information will help everyone realize that water is very important to life, whether it is tap water, spring water or bottled water. |
