-Water Safety-
by Shanelle Busche

When you go swimming, do you think about all the hazards that can happen to you while in the water? Most people don't. There are many reasons why you should be careful when entering water or operating a water craft. Many people don't think about these things, but they should. One of the things you can do to make waters safe is to to prevent the transmission of disease. You can prevent transmission of disease by asking your self these questions before proceeding into the water. -Do you have a communicable disease? -Do you have an upset stomach? -Do you have infected skin lesions or sores? -Do you have cold/flu symptoms, or a fever? If you do have any of these symptoms don't go in the water. Operation of water craft is another potential hazard to everything/everyone in the water. Taking a water operator's permit test lessens the hazard of accidents.

This test teaches boaters about the laws and regulations when operating water crafts. The test also teaches people about collision and safety, and it teaches them the facts about alcohol and boating and the hazards of drowning if the boater drinks and operates a water craft. Nearly one thousand people die in boating accidents involving alcohol each year. In winter when the ice freezes over the lake, the hazards become different. Things to watch out for are thin ice, and ice that looks safe but People shouldn't judge ice by the way it looks because they could be wrong. It's best to wait until there is quite a bit of ice for walking on ice or driving on it . Rules contribute to water safety as they do to make waters safe. People should follow these rules while in water.
-All children under twelve years of age must be supervised by a responsible adult or supervisor while in the water. -No infant or toddler is to be in the water with a soiled diaper -Bathhouse facilities shall be used by all visitors for necessary personal hygiene. -Don't drink out of spout water -Spitting or nose blowing in the water is prohibited
If you do, the guards at for D.L. will react to the situation by implementing an established safety plan procedure to minimize the hazard and protect our waters. Water safety is to protect everyone from water hazards that may affect our community. Following rules establishes a safer environment for all.
